On October 4-5, 2025, members of the Alumni Parlamentu
Foinsa’e Timor-Leste (APFTL), along with their partners Oxfam in Timor-Leste
and FONGTIL, participated in the Regional Conference “Asia for the People
Conference 2025” (#AFPC) with the theme “Harnessing Southeast Asia’s
Greatest Resources.” The conference was organized by the Foreign Policy
Community of Indonesia (#FPCI).
In this Regional Conference, the Organizing Committee
established principal sessions and parallel events that provided opportunities
for participants to learn, discuss, and share knowledge with each other —
including Oxfam and its partners, civil society organizations, young
entrepreneurs groups, research centers, academic institutions, and experts from
11 ASEAN nations.
The issues emphasized during the two-day event
included: climate change, land governance and sustaining food systems, how to
expand entrepreneurship as an economic force in Southeast Asia, governance,
social issues, politics and security, and the challenges faced by ASEAN member
nations.
After the conference concluded in Jakarta, APFTL and
Matadalan Institutu (MDI), along with International Partner Oxfam in
Timor-Leste, continued with a visit to the organization Plastik Detox in
Bali. This organization has extensive experience in the areas of permaculture,
organic fertilizer production, and the development of innovative and
sustainable packaging, and it promotes ecotourism.
During this visit, APFTL & Oxfam in Timor-Leste
and Mata Dalan Institute - MDI shared experiences regarding the work they do in
Timor-Leste, such as youth involvement in agriculture, entrepreneurship, and
research. This exchange also provided an opportunity to learn from Plastik
Detox’s experience in promoting sustainability and innovation at the community
level. (Source: Oxfam in Timor-Leste Facebook Page)
